Feelings are not facts
A common misconception is that people who consistently win and are successful always feel confident. This couldn’t be further from the truth. High achievers have learned that:
- Feelings are not facts.
- Feelings are not final.
Mental performance pioneer, Dr. Ken Ravizza, used to say, “Are you so bad that you need your A-Game to win? If you only have 70%, give 100% of what you do have.”
The pro tip here is lean into your routines, practice productive self-talk, and act your way into the feeling.
Remember nerves are normal and part of the growth process. Just because you feel nervous, pressured, or lack motivation doesn’t mean you can’t execute.
What you’ll find is that the anticipation is worse than the participation. Using movement and action will build momentum, then motivation. It’s the start that stops most people.
The next time you feel nerves or self-doubt, challenge yourself to stay neutral and focus on one small action instead of what could go wrong. Just start! One small behavior at a time. This process will cultivate confidence and shift your feelings from fear to empowerment.
